German Shepard mix

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri Jun 22, 2001 4:17 am

My dogs eyes are red, swollen and the tissue around his pupils seems to be inflammed. His eyes look like there bulging out. He is 9 years old and sometimes secretes fluid from the inner corner of his eyes, at times there's a little blood. Is this serious? Somekind of condition? What do I do? Any persistent redness or swelling in (or around) the eye warrants a trip to your veterinarian. Serious complications, including loss of vision, can result from untreated glaucoma, uveitis (inflammation of the iris and associated tissues) or corneal injuries.

In addition, German Shepherds are at risk for several diseases that may cause signs as you describe them (particularly a disease of the cornea called pannus). I hope you make plans to have your dog evaluated as soon as practical.

Thank you so much for your quick informative response. I will take him to his vet. Thanks again. Susie
