Dog Ticks

Post a new topicby Guest on Sat Jun 30, 2001 3:37 pm

My dog had a tick which we removed. We also have a cat. Do we need to treat the cat, further treat the dog, or treat our home environment?

For a single tick, no. Unlike fleas, which present a population problem, ticks are individual problems (not that you can't have a lot of them), and are appropriately treated as such.

If either your dog or cat continues to acquire ticks I recommend the use of Frontline topically applied each month during the season. In high tick load areas consider using a Preventic collar on your dog.

As for the environment, avoid walking your dog in tick infested areas and keep him out of the woods.
