dog ticks

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Jun 14, 2001 10:42 pm

I just removed a tick from my dog and she now has a bloody bubble from the back of her neck. I am not sure if it is a mole that she has had or if the tick did something. I used peroxide to clean the area. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. She is 16 years old, and I am sorry to say I have not given her her heartworm pills.

This is probably no more than a small hematoma (blood blister) that has formed at the site of attachment. You DO want to be sure that it was a tick you removed; as dogs age I have found that people remove small tumors with tweezers with increasing frequency!

If the lesion does not subside within a week or so, you may want to visit your veterinarian to have this checked out. Small skin lesions may often be easily biopsied under a local anesthetic, so you don't need to worry about your dog's age.
