We just had our 3 month old "westie" diagnosed with canine distemper .......so my question is how long should I wait to bring a new pup into our house?? my kids are heartbroken due to our loss and I would like to get them another pup....I know this is an airborne disease, so how do I know if my house is free from this disease....?? any suggestions?

I found this under the heading Canine Distemper on the left side of the page:

"One-dog households
If a dog has died from CDV infection, pet owners should wait about one month before introducing a new puppy or dog into the home. Contaminated objects and living areas should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected with a 1:30 bleach-water solution."

Take a moment to read the article...very interesting and informative. I'm so sorry for your loss. Hopefully everything will be fine with your next puppy.
