Animal Allergies

I adopted a puppy (about 6 months old when adopted) that had been in the local shelter. He began having signs of what I now know as distemper. I have had him about 3 months and he is doing much better. Should I be relieved that he is doing so well, or is there still a chance the distemper can resurface? I want to be realistic.
